DC Universe

I don’t care to play this game but the trailer was really good. Worth a watch. Clicky. This premise would make an interesting feature. Hell, it might make a great MMO. I’ll be keeping my eye out on this game a bit more now that I’ve seen the direction they’re taking.

The Walking Dead

So i’ve been really getting in to this comic series called the walking dead. It’s basically a comic book series about zombies and it’s amazing. I’m probably just way too into zombies in general, but if you guys have any time to kill you should head over to barnes and noble (i’m still way too poor to buy them) and check them out. I’m on the fifth one and he’s coming out with the twelfth installment in july. Oh, and the best part is that AMC is making it as a tv show that comes out in october.
Also, how’s sf and shit?

From the ashes

I’m having some fun with this SC2 beta, although I’m regularly getting roflstomped. This is my favorite win so far. I was focused on expanding and did not have enough defenses. He rolled in with a few marines and a ton of siege tanks and was taking me out. I had basically no options so i rushed to build a spire as he was shelling my base. I also used the queens to spawn a ton of larva and as soon as the spire was complete, at which point i have barely anything left, I made like 14 mutalisks and continued to watch while my base was getting wrecked. However, as soon as the mutas spawned, I wiped out his siege tanks which could do nothing against my airborne mutalisks, which were basically all I had left. I then tried to rebuild things but realized maybe now was a good time to counter strike. His base was basically defenseless against air and I wiped him out in no time.

Here’s a link to the replay (had to give it a .jpg extension to get it to upload, remove it and it should work)

Halo: Reach

So these are my thoughts on halo reach so far: To me it feels weirdly a lot like halo combat evolved. This initially threw me for a loop a bit (its been a really long time since I played competitive halo 1 for sure) but then after a few rounds everything seemed right again. Dual wielding (which threw off the game balance in halo 2 and was rendered totally unneccesary in halo 3) has been removed, and we are now back to only 2 grenade types, four total to carry.
The big change to the game is of course the load out abilities. Again I was initially skeptical but now I have completely changed my mind. This is going to sound weird, but this part of the game reminds me a lot of street fighter, and that is a very good thing. Let me explain: A central tenet of how street fighter works is each fighter can select an ultra combo from a list to use in a match (generally there are two or three to pick from for each warrior), and these moves, if used properly, can help a player adjust strategy or stage a comeback, oh and landing them makes you feel bad ass. Now how does this apply to reach? For starters the ability to pick load outs increases the strategy and fun and reduces frustration in my opinion. Did you get killed and need to make it back somewhere quick? sprint. Need to get back someplace out of reach? fly. Are you having trouble mixing it up one on one? get the drop on them with invisible. Or do you just need a second chance? shield. Oh, and using these abilities makes me feel like a bad ass.
Weapon adjustments seem spot on too, particularly the BR replacement the DMR, which seems very well balanced for the game. In halo 2 and 3 no one in there right mind would pick up an AR or SMG over the BR. But in this game the DMR’s slower fire rate and single shot (instead of triple shot) capacity really make it only useful from mid to long range (oh and i think it handles really well too).
Most important of all though is the fact that the game feels fun again. The loadout abilities give you an advantage whenever you need it, and you never feel weak after spawning because of that fact, and also its great to be able to swiftly get back into the game with spring or jet pack.
All in all I am really liking it so far. What do you guys think?

We Beat Twisted Treeline

I was gonna write out the story of how this screenshot came to be but I’ll just link it instead. Suffice it to say this game was epic and Jefe was too busy blowing himself to help.

The Hype Machine Keeps Rolling

With about two weeks left before the Reach Beta hits Bungie’s released another ViDoc showing off, well, a ton of everything multiplayer related. Looks like a ton of fun. Who all has an invite from ODST?

Halo: Reach Preorder

So I preordered Halo: Reach from Amazon today. They’re offering a $20 video game credit. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. Got anything better?

New Marathon?

Looks a little vague but Bungie seems to have filed a new trademark for Marathon. Maybe they are keeping their promise not to make any more Halo games (then again, they already said they’d be making more, so who knows). Or maybe it’s absolutely nothing. Kotaku seems a little vague on it and I’m not quite sure what I’m reading on the TM page. Found via Kotaku.
