I Never Trusted Cerberus…

… but now I’m beginning to suspect my sister may have ties to them too.

Remember in Mass Effect 1 when cerberus killed that dude who was a Rear Admiral? Definitely the most hilarious rank in the navy.

So has the battle system of mass effect 2 become more like a shooter and less like an rpg or something? I havent played it but i keep hearing that the game is like not as much of an rpg as the orginal in terms of the battle system and character growth.

I’d say that’s a fair assessment. I personally prefer the first, a little more depth and a lot more customization.

I like the second better actually. Maybe because I’m lazy and impatient. I really like just charging into battles and not worrying about the other stuff too much. There’s still opportunities for upgrading, but they’re more on the side if you choose to pursue them.

My biggest gripe with the combat system is universal cooldowns. Seriously, it is one of the most limiting of gameplay mechanics. I get that they were trying to make the Soldier class be a more viable option, but seriously, going from ME1 where I could throw a guy, lift another, stasis a third, and barrier myself to, in ME2, throw a guy….wait 3 seconds….tech armor……wait 12 seconds…….throw……..wait 3… Well, you get the idea. It sucked.

Also, Sentinel went from having about 7 abilities to having really only three: Throw, Tech Armor, and Overload/Warp (I put those two into the same boat since they were practically interchangeable). I felt a lot of strategy was lost in the simplification of the system.

Oh, I almost forgot, my actual biggest complaint: they weakened throw to make it absolutely worthless. Oh oh almost forgot another big one: WTF making powers not work when they have shields/armor/barriers? It makes them almost useless since once they’ve lost shields they are almost dead anyway. But back to throw, in ME1 I could throw a Geth into a wall and kill him with one hit. Or I could throw a Trooper and he’d go flying a good 20 ft. I could even take on those big walker guys, though they’d only fall over. In ME2 I can’t even use throw until their shields are down and then it does almost nothing and pushes them maybe 10 ft. Combining with Pull was somewhat cool, but honestly a waste of powers since Pull + Throw was weaker than just throwing two Warps on them (or a Reave, which turned out to be one of my favorite abilities once I stole it from the Justicar). Also Multi[Moves] are silly: they have Armor/Shields/Barrier’s on so it’s not going to work on any but the one you’re fighting.

And wow, that was waay more than I meant to write.

Yah, I agree for the most part, although I kinda like the idea of HAVING to use two different people’s powers together to be able to combo. I loved using pull and warp to explode everyone. I agree that it was disappointing to really not be able to touch people with armor or barriers though. Just had to shoot at them a lot. I was glad that I was able to add the ability to use an assault rifle to my vanguard though.
