ODST

It’s out. The campaign is pretty solid (played about 2 hours) and Firefight is amazing. I’d say totally worth it. If you have a Toys R’ Us go there between now and like Saturday and you get a 20 dollar gift card to their. Not a bad deal. Also Cano and I now have all the maps times two, so H3 will be rocked as well (though I’m curious if I’m going to be worst at it after playing ODST).

The story mode is awesome. It’s nice to have a sense of vulnerability again. Remember when Halo Combat Evolved got a bunch of shit for reusing levels? I feel like that really hit Bungie hard. They didn’t reuse anything in Halo 2 or Halo 3 and because of that it felt like none of the environments really meant anything. It’s over stimulating and we don’t get a sense of where in the game world we are. It’s nice to see that Bungie decided to reuse certain parts of the environments again in ODST. Firefight is a ton of fun, and it would be even better if we could get some more DNSHers in there. It’s basically the beginning of the level Halo in Halo Combat Evolved where you are on the platform fending off hordes of covenant drop ships. But with a point system that makes you feel even more bad ass.

I just got it on Amazon. It costs like $50.99 and you get a $10 videogame credit there. Let me know if you guys want to play sometime this weekend. I’m prob going to bring my box back to New Haven too.

That’s interesting what you say about Level Reuse, Cano, because I never really felt like it was a downside to Halo. I remember thinking it was really cool that Two Betrayals was AotCR backwards. I think what you say is really true… level reuse gave me a familiarity with the game world, while still providing new challenges, which really enhanced the impact of the storyline for me.

Cool deal about Amazon.

I didn’t even remember that Two Betrayals was called Two Betrayals. I had honestly come to think it was just Reverse AotCR. Good points Cano, especially about land reuse. The vulnerability thing is what I’ve been bitching about since H2: there’s just something more epic when your actions have consequence.

I was playing a game that lasted for an hour and a half with Cano the other day and I realized that part of what makes it fun is that the games last long enough to actually matter, rather than the 10-12 min matchmaking battles with randos. But if we have enough people now, let’s just play each other on custom so we can have matches that last forever until somebody drops the flag..
