Blockbuster – 6 weeks free

Hey guys,

Came upon this deal today… http://www.groupon.com/

It’s a pretty good deal, but obviously Blockbuster is trying to get you to just keep the service, so if you don’t want it make sure to cancel it before it ends. But 6 weeks free ain’t bad.

The Old Republic preview

Just watched the old republic preview and I am upset to say that it looks awesome. The reason I am upset is because now I am excited about not one but 2 mmo’s, and ideally I should never get excited for an mmo again.

Unexpected Lost Planet

Okay, just disregard everything below this. Lost Planet 2 co-op demo out. Pick it up. Let’s play.

Nevermind, I got confused this morning. I thought this was Rising. This is, as Cano just pointed out to me, the PSP one. No wonder the graphics look flat and dated. Nothing to see here, move along…

So I guess Gamescon is on in Cologne. Lots of stuff to sort through. Some new info on Kojima’s new MGS: Peace Walker. The video itself is incredibly lackluster, but the info is interesting. 4-player co-op (Combat Operations, Comradeship, Cooperation, they just kept slapping the screen with words that started with CO) and some interesting gameplay. The graphics look incredibly bland, but they’re also washed out from the video itself. A gameplay feature, though I’m not sure on this, looks to be to link up with a squadmate (put you hand on his shoulder). This makes you do what the person in front of you does (well, walking wise). The cool thing about this is that it looks to finally make those epic “you take point, I’ll cover the rear” moments work in gaming. Usually the rear guy ends up going too slowly, too fast, or just stopping, and the whole concept of a solid moving unit is lost. They look to have made this possible. Honestly, the trailer is not very interesting and very long, but hopefully some good stuff will come from this.

Lost Planet 2 Co-Op Demo

The Lost Planet 2 co-op demo is coming out on August 19th for Xbox Gold Members. I believe it’s up to four players so we should all try to get it. The developers focused on making the game rely heavily on teamwork, or at least thats how they advertise it.

Spielberg and Halo FTW

Looks like steven spielberg is picking up the Halo trilogy as a producer. Looks like they’re going to do “Halo: The Fall of Reach”, the first game now titled “Halo: Rise of the Flood”, then they’re gonna wisely skip halo 2, and do Halo 3 as the final film of the trilogy entitled “Halo: Battle for Earth”

You know i suck at linking so im just gonna post it:

Stuart Beattie, the writer behind the new concept that Spielberg loves, was quite busy during the 2007 writer’s strike when he wrote the script on spec based on the storyline from Eric Nyland’s prequel novel to HALO, THE FALL OF REACH. Beattie is also hot off the summer hit G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA which he co-wrote with director Stephen Sommers and others. During the promotional tour for that film, he told Scifi.com that the HALO story is, “an amazing story about this child that no one cares about and who cares for no one else, who kind of ends up saving all of humanity.”

Back on April Fools Day of 2008, Latino Review broke the news of the new Beattie script and had a write up on what it was all about,

The script is, first and foremost, a character-driven story about a soldier named John who was kidnapped or “conscripted” by the UNSC when he was just six years old, and then brutally trained to become an elite Spartan warrior known as Master Chief 117.

The script then takes us through the horrific first contact with the Covenant hordes on the doomed colony world of Harvest, and then climaxes with the spectacular fall of the UNSC forward base on Reach, during which every other Spartan is slaughtered.

The script also gives detailed outlines for the second movie, HALO: RISE OF THE FLOOD, which takes place entirely on the Halo ringworld, and the third and final movie, HALO: BATTLE FOR EARTH, which roughly follows the events of Halo 3, the game.

One cool advantage of this first script is that (like the shark in JAWS) you don’t even see the Covenant until halfway through the movie. And because all the creatures are CGI creations, this cuts the budget down dramatically and makes a first Halo movie that much more viable. For Halo fans, it’s like the prequel that provides all the answers to questions they’ve thought about for years. For non Halo fans, it’s an exciting action movie that provides a clear, concise introduction to a world five hundred years in the future with relatable characters and a terrifying alien menace.

FF XIV

Okay, so I swore off MMOs about two years ago after playing WoW waay too much and not even enjoying it. With that said there are two MMOs on the horizon that I am actually looking forward to. Luckily I don’t think I’ll ever get as addicted to another MMO as I was with WoW. That was just plain terrible.

Anyway, lots of new FFXIV (that’s hard for me to write sometimes) info has come out recently. It looks basically like a retooling of XI which, honestly, is fine with me. Here’s the rundown for the short of time and lazy:

Five races:
Elezen (Elvaan)
Lalafell (Taru)
Hyur (Hume)
Roegadyn (Galka)
Miqo’te (Mithra)

It looks like they basically tried to make everything harder to pronounce. Exactly the same as XI though, down to Mithra only being female and Galka only being male (and, I would guess, still suck at being WHM (looking at you Morton)).

City-States:
Ul’dah
Limsa Lominsa
Gridania

This I’m a little fuzzier on their XI counterparts. I’d say Ul’dah is (..need to go look up what those pricks to the North’s place was called) Sandy, Limsa is Bastok, and Gridania is Windy. Yet without more info I’m basically basing it off the pictures. If that is the case they will be changing the cities purposes a bit since New Bastok is now a seaport. Regardless the concept art is gorgeous.

Classes:
I’m a bit hazy on this. I know that there are at least four main classes with two subs for each, so that sounds slightly different. Yet one thing, if I gather correctly, you can do now is change on the fly. Maybe not in combat, dunno, but it looks like the new Armoury system allows for changes in the field based on gear. Sounds promising.

So there’s a lot more information on the official site so go check it out. Shit I forgot I’m parked in 15 minutes……. please no ticket please no ticket.
