Spore

So I have spore, and i happen to think that it is very cool. Its very easy to download if your into that sort of thing (thats what brandon did) but its also well worth a purchase. I’m sure you have already heard a lot about the game and how it works. The first four stages of the game are all fun (very fun if you are into customization and creation which i personally really enjoy). You may have heard that they phases are short, but this is an easy fix. Simply don’t play on normal or easy difficulty and things become a lot more challenging. In my opinion though the first three stages of the games are really glorified tutorials so that you can effectively play the civilization phase (which plays like a quicker simpler version of the sid meir game) and the awesomness of the space stage. The space stage is incredible, and plays like a love letter to all those sci fi films and books we grew up with. It plays sort of like EV meets harvest moon meets civilization meets star wars/dune. The space phase is so large (populated by 50,000 user generated planets and species) that its staggering and there is always something interesting to find. Primarily this phase tasks you with acquiring spice, by terra formation (my personal favorite thing in the game) or conquest or trade. Empires are militaristic, religous, or economic which effects how you must deal with, trade with, or if you would like, go to war with your neighbors. And then once you are well established in the phase and have built a fleet of ships to accompany you, Your task is to trek to the galaxy’s center. It is at this place that you meet the completely evil and powerful grox creatures. The massive endgame charges you with either wiping them out, or allying with them (causing all other races to declare war on you) to obtain the secret the grox posses. Very cool game.

huh, didn’t know the game actually had a goal of any sort. That’s a bit more intriguing knowing that. I dunno if I could handle all the customization, I’ve never really been a fan of it in any game (unless of course its part of the strategy or combat system).

Kinda amazed Dylan hasn’t picked it up yet actually.

well customization does effect strategy and combat actually, because depending on how you build your creature it changes how he will fight. Like if your a carnivore, long range acid spitter, melee, use elecricity or poison or if you fly or that sort of thing. or if you don’t personally and use social skills to attract body guards to fight for you. Or what weapons or tactics will become avaoilabel to you in more advanced stages of the game.

Spore sounds pretty sweet but I’m low on cash. I really want to get Left 4 Dead and Gears of War 2. They look like co-op champions.

have you guys gotten fable 2? i hear everything is awesome in it except co op which was the opposite of what i was expecting. the next game on my list will probably be guitar hero world tour. Wierdly now when i play guitar hero my vision gets blurry (yet i play better) and i sort of just feel the notes instead of seeing them.

Ya, we both picked up a copy (sadly, since co-op is worthless) and have beaten it and are now just picking through it. If anyone wants to borrow it holler, we have a copy that we can toss around.

ya. i reallly dont have the time to play rpg’s anymore sadly. I think that this is an increasing trend among dnsh though.

We’ve just split them up into more manageable segments (cept Fable, we played big chunks on that one). We’ve been playing Tales of Vesperia for awhile now, like 1-2 hours a couple times a week, works pretty well for us. Makes the game seem like it lasts forever, and with Tales unfortunately that’s not exactly a good thing.

Yah, the old factor in evaluating games used to be hours of gameplay per dollar, but now it’s enjoyability per hour.

heh ya. though replay hours factor heavily. I’m glad developers are (slowly) coming around to coop. I have a lot of hope for Left 4 Dead.

I still cant believe im the only guy in dnsh who played resident evil 4 (like a million times its so great) but resident evil 5 looks amazing. I know you have it for wii boughter so play it! and kg you should look into picking up a copy for gamecube. the game is seriously sweet. Very fun, with action and upgrade and rpg elements, but lots of save points and stuff for the gamer without a lot of time.

Man, I’ve been playing more RE4 lately, very sweet game. Well by lately I mean back in September.. but it was more than I had played thus far. RE5 looks incredible, and it’s COOP! so it’s a definite buy on my list.

RE5 does look like a solid buy.
