Looks like Leonardo DiCaprio got the rights to do 3 films based on the 6 akira manga volumes (if you werent aware the anime itself was only the first 2 of the 6). Looks like he’s gonna be tetsuo and joseph gordon levitt will be kaneda (he’s the kid from 10 things i hate about you/brick). I guess it’s a done deal already. Wicked.

It seems like a live action Akira would be hell to pull off. Lead actors are cool though.

I don’t know sounds good to me (Leo’s got enough hollywood clout to make sure it doesnt suck imo). Plus it would be cool to see the rest of the story in live action as the anime only covers about a third of it or less.

i think hollywood should come up with its own ideas rather than try and ruin what should remain in cartoon format only.. the manga story aside.
is Katsuhiro otomo or the akira commitee involved at all?

I dono about DiCaprio. Since seeing The Aviator and The Departed, I have a lot more respect for him as an actor than I used to… but even when he’s gritty (in The Departed) I don’t think he’s really *gritty*. I guess I’m not sure that A. He’d be a good fit for the Tetsuo character nor B. He’s be a good fit for the Akira universe. But I’ll wait and see. I’m more or less stoked.

he’s not tesuo, he’s kaneda joe. and also, looks like there going to americanize it which is probably obvious from the actors so like neo tokyo=neo manhattan, etc.
